Our Story

The Vern Glenn Invitational began in early 2024 as a simple idea hatched in San Francisco at Chicago II Barbershop. Joe Da Barber wanted to honor Vern Glenn – a Bay Area icon with over three decades of sports journalism and community service under his belt. The vision? A celebration of Vern’s legacy, blending the camaraderie of golf with a mission to give back.

The inaugural event, held on July 29, 2024, at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland, was a resounding success. With 160 golfers hitting the greens and another 220 guests joining for dinner and the auction, the day was packed with energy, fun, and purpose. Together, we raised funds for incredible causes and set the stage for something even bigger…

For VGI 2025, we’re bringing the tournament closer to Vern’s roots, hosting it at the stunning Marin Country Club. This year, we’re doubling down on our mission to make a difference, raising money for three organizations close to Vern’s heart: Play Marin, Beyond Differences, and the Widows and Orphans Fund.

We can’t wait to continue the tradition in a way that honors Vern’s legacy, strengthens our community, and inspires everyone who steps onto the course. Here’s to making VGI 2025 another unforgettable chapter!
