Hughes in 1957, Marin Country Club’s course has evolved to offer a truly exceptional golf experience. Major renovations in 2007 by John Harbottle III and a 2017 redesign by Doug Nickels introduced reimagined bunkers, forward tees, and state-of-the-art practice facilities. Nestled in the stunning Ignacio Valley, this course boasts impeccable year-round conditions and breathtaking views, making it the perfect setting for the Vern Glenn Invitational.

What to Expect

Kick off your day with a warm welcome and the perfect mix of energy and elegance. As you arrive, grab your swag bag, say hello to familiar faces, and soak in the morning buzz on the greens. We’re setting the tone for a day of great golf, good vibes, and even better company.

Check-In | 8:30 AM

Get ready for some serious star power on the green! Watch 7-10 celebrity guests go head to head in a thrilling putting showdown. Each player gets one shot to sink it close, and all compete for a prize on behalf of the VGI. It's high stakes, big swings, and a lot of fun. Don’t miss the action!

Putting Contest | 10:00 AM

And we’re off! 144 golfers, 18 holes, and one unforgettable day of competition. With a shotgun start, each foursome will take on the course in a scramble format. It’s all about teamwork, strategy, and having a blast on the greens. One group will claim the ultimate VGI prize. Let the games begin!

Tournament Tee Off | 11:00 AM

After a day on the greens, it’s time to relax, raise a glass, and make a difference. Sip on cocktails, swap stories from the course, and browse our exclusive silent auction items. Every bid helps support our three incredible causes. Unwind, connect, and give back. It’s the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Cocktails & Silent Auction | 4:30 PM

The grand finale of the day! Enjoy a delicious buffet-style dinner as our lively auctioneer takes the stage for the VGI’s exclusive live auction. From one-of-a-kind items to unforgettable experiences, every bid goes directly to support our incredible charities. Let’s close out the day in style!

The Vern Glenn Invitational is where golf meets giving back. Born in 2024 to honor Vern Glenn’s 30+ years of sports journalism and community service, this prestigious event blends the thrill of competition with the joy of making a difference.

Join us on June 30, 2025, at the scenic Marin Country Club in Novato, CA, for an unforgettable day of golf, camaraderie, and charity. Proceeds support Play Marin, Beyond Differences, and the Marin Public Safety Officers Association’s Widows and Orphans Fund.

Who We Benefit

Unlocking potential through play and education. Play Marin creates opportunities for children & teens from diverse backgrounds to thrive. By fostering personal growth, leadership, and community engagement, this organization is building a brighter future, one game, one lesson, and one child at a time.

Sandy Hook Promise educates and empowers youth and adults to prevent violence. Following its merger with Beyond Differences, it now offers expanded, no-cost programs to foster belonging, prevent isolation, and teach critical intervention skills to create safer, more inclusive schools and communities.

Honoring those who serve and protect. The Widows and Orphans Fund provides critical financial support to families of fallen public safety officers in Marin County. From college scholarships to assistance in times of need, this fund ensures these heroes' families are never forgotten.

  • Back for year two, Emmy-winning host Liam Mayclem brings his signature charisma and auction firepower to VGI 25. You’ve seen him on KCBS, CBS, and BottleRock – now he’s back to run the show.

  • Multi-instrumentalist and powerhouse performer Dan Durkin is the frontman of the nationally touring Tom Petty tribute band, Petty Theft. When he’s not channeling Petty, he’s taking flight with IllEagles – his full-time tribute to The Eagles.

    Five-time Emmy-winning Sportscaster Vern Glenn brings his high-energy storytelling and decades of broadcasting excellence to the course, inspiring VGI’s mission to give back and make a difference.

  • Bob Hammer

    Two-time cancer survivor and founder of the "Have a Ball" Golf Tournament, Bob Hammer, turned personal challenges into a lasting mission to give back, raising funds for life-changing organizations.
